In this week-long class, students will learn the basics of Youzign Graphics Program and create simple graphics that they can use in their projects at home and school.
Each student will be given a temporary Youzign account for the class, with unlimited cloud storage for their projects. In 2014, Dr. Palmere coined a phrase for Youzign: "Photoshop in your pocket." Super powerful, yet very easy to use. Youzign - The Introduction (Part 1) classes will be offered every week of the summer, and is the prerequisite for Youzign Part 2 - The Essentials and all advanced classes.

EQUIPMENT REQUIRED: Computer to connect to the internet, plastic bags, or other light plastic sheeting. scissors, tape (scotch or duct), hair dryer or fan.

In this class, Dr. Palmere will teach you how to design and build a “table top” inflatable. Your inflatable can be of anything you want. Space station, modules, cubes, spheres or other objects. If you like to build things, make things or want to learn about spatial reasoning, this course is for you.

This class is both hands-on and minds-on. We will meet on zoom each day, then each student will work at home on their inflatables. We will share our work via zoom and with photos, sketches and other methods.

Class size is limited to 16 per week, and the class is offered twice this summer (S3 June 22-26; and S7 July 2019-24; 2:00 pm to 3:15pm). If you have a question, call or email Dr. Palmere.

Software needed: You will need a copy of Planetbase. If you do not have a STEAM account already, go to STEAM.com and download the application. Then purchase your copy of Planetbase. You will download a copy to your PC and play the simulation. If you need help, the instructor will assist on day one of class.

Planetbase is a game where students can learn the basics of martian survival and community management while discussing the idea of technical accuracy in the art of science fiction.

The course consists of an introduction to the systems and resources of the game Planetbase, an ongoing discussion of the realism of these features, and some discussion of video games themselves and how they tend to depict space colonization.
This class is geared for students ages 10 and older.

Younger students can enroll with special permission.

Description: This class introduces the computer simulation, Surviving Mars to students. This is a complex simulation in which students and start and manage a mars colony.

Prerequisites: Students have completed Surviving Mars An Introduction classes 1A and 1B.
Software: Surviving Mars, no extensions needed.

Continue your mastery of Martian colonization in Space Voyage Virtual’s Surviving Mars 2.

Space Voyage is pleased to present the second level of difficulty of Surviving Mars. Students will expand their understanding of the Surviving Mars simulation game and continue discussions on the possibilities and practicalities of Martian colonization. By the week’s end, students will attain a mastery of the Surviving Mars game. More at home work can be expected for this course compared to Surviving Mars 1.

The Space Voyage Surviving Mars program offers four (4) levels of complexity and competence. Students can continue in additional levels of the class as they progress.

The four achievement levels are:
Level 1: Exploration (Introduction Class L1-A, and Essentials Class L1-B)
Level 2: Mastery (Gaining Mastery L2-A) and, Demonstrating Mastery L2-B, and L2-C (if needed)
Level 3: Proficiency (L3-A Intermediate Skills, L3-B Gaining Proficiency, and L3-C Demonstrating Proficiency)
Level 4: Expert (L4-A Advanced Topics, L4-B Demonstrating Expertise)

Surviving Mars: Introduction (L1-A) will repeat throughout the summer. Surviving Mars-Introduction (L1-A) is the prerequisite for Surviving Mars- Essentials (L1-B), and all levels beyond.
You must have the program on your computer (PC or MAC only) to participate. Register and we will provide you with the "Steam Key" for you to own a copy of this program ($29 value). The instructor will assist you in the first class meeting to download and install the program, you can do this on you own. Please check the PC hardware requirements below.

The class will meet on a Zoom Meeting each day, and students will continue on their own at home. The instructor for this course is a certified Space Voyage Instructor who is an expert in the Surviving Mars sim and will help you learn about Mars colonies, using the program, and having fun.

EQUIPMENT REQUIRED: Computer to connect to the internet, empty water bottles, soda bottles, or other plastic bottles. Preferred bottle is a 16oz Costco-Kirkland bottle or similar, scissors, duct tape, scissors, and a flat surface to work on (folding card table is preferred), markers, Optional: Printer and paper to print on.
In this class we will learn about the parts of a space station. Then using this knowledge, we will build water bottle space stations. We can make space stations that are like the international space station, or models of space stations that are futuristic using our imaginations. We will collaborate to design “wrappers” for the various space station modules that students can print out at home. Or, students can use makers, labels and other stickers to put logos on their space stations.
This class is both hands-on and minds-on. We will meet on zoom each day, then each student will work at home on water bottle space stations. We will share our work via zoom and with photos, sketches and other methods.

The class is the second class in the Surviving Mars program. It builds on what students have learned in Surviving Mars: An Introduction (Part 1)
This Mars colonization simulation is offered under the leadership and instruction of a Space Voyage Instructor. While students started a mars colony in the first class, in Essentials they learn about the inner-workings of this mars simulation. There’s a lot to learn and in SM: Essentials, students gain a working knowledge of the simulation.

Double check the PC hardware requirements below.
