The Patch Factory - Week 12
The Patch Factory
Description: The is an Online Live class that meets for five days (Monday through Friday). This is a LIVE ZOOM CLASS.

Join Doc Palmere in creating space patches to commemorate the summer of 2020. While we can create space patches, we will also create patches suggested by the class.
Grade Level: Students ages 6-16.
Host: Dr. Mark "Doc" Palmere, Ph.D., Founder of Space Voyage

Dr. Palmere, your artist-in-residence who creates Crew Mission Patches at our in-person space camp will be instructor for this The Patch Factory. Doc has more than six thousand hours creating crew mission patches, and has created more than 300 patches for crews at Space Voyage Academy and Summer Camp. Students will watch patches being created and watch art go from a 'rough draft' to a 'final version.' Students will be invited to share patch ideas.

Students will suggest ideas, then these rough ideas will be created and shared at the next class. Finished work will be shared via email and online on The Patch Factory Blog.

You can see samples of Crew Mission Art on the Space Voyage web site. The art we create together will be unique to our group, and will be based on our collaboration.

Project Space Station - Basic Sim - S12
Space Voyage - Virtual Sim of Cadet Level 1
Type of Class: LIVE ZOOM CLASS
Date and Time: August 24-28, 2020 (M, Tu, W, Th, F)
Grade Levels: Grades 4 through 8
Simulation Technician: Dr. Palmere, Founder, Space Voyage
Prerequisites: None.
Equipment Required: PC, MAC, or Chrome book; Access to the internet, web-cam and microphone; spiral notebook, 3x5 cards and marker. Optional: Use of a printer to print simulation documents;

This is Live class that meets daily for five days on a Live Zoom meeting. Each class meets for approximately two hours.

This is the simulation component of brick-and-mortar, in-person simulation activity that occurs at Space Voyage Space Camp. In this virtual online class students will work as a crew, with a simulation-technician (Dr. P) to build a functional space station, then plan and begin a research project. There is a lot to learn about parts and functions of a space station, and all decisions that go into doing space science simulation. We’ll use 30 year of in-person (at camp) simulation knowledge to conduct our simulation. This class is the basics, or a Level 1 simulation that involves exploring the topics. Student can continue to do more advance simulations as they gain knowledge, skills and confidence.

Due to the nature of the software used, the simulation will run on the Sim-tech’s computer, and students will learn how to use the “remote control” features of a Live Zoom Meeting. We will be able to save mission histories to continue across space flight and class days.

Students can register before class date starts or join the class in progress--- up to the start of day 2 of class two, on August 4th. If you have any questions, please contact Doc at 303-985-3143. If he is in class, you can leave a message and he will call you back; Or email Doc at dr-palmere@spacevoyage.com
