FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

The Space Voyage STEAM Club at Ute Meadows Elementary is offering discounted rates for three key reasons:

Gratitude to Ute Meadows: Last summer, when the original facility became unavailable due to construction, Ute Meadows stepped in to host the summer camp. The discounted rates are a way to express appreciation for the school's support and flexibility during that time

Enhanced Learning Experience: Dr. Palmere has intentionally expanded the program duration, recognizing that children need ample time to fully engage with their projects, absorb new concepts, and enjoy the learning process. This extended format allows for a more relaxed and fun environment, promoting better learning outcomes.

Pioneering Program: Ute Meadows Elementary holds the distinction of being the first school anywhere to host a STEAM Club of this kind. As the inaugural location for this innovative after-school program, the school is being offered special rates to celebrate this groundbreaking partnership
.

Our STEAM Club is all about hands-on learning through themed projects we call "Expeditions." Each Expedition lasts between 3 to 5 weeks and meets once a week for two hours. Students in grades 4-5 will meet on Tuesdays, while grades 2-3 will meet on Thursdays, both in the Ute Meadows Cafeteria.

In our first meetings, students will work with Dr. Palmere to build a stunning replica of the Saturn V rocket. This project is special because the rockets will be donated to our new principal, Dr. Brewer, as a gift from our club. We’ll also have fun designing Halloween costumes from upcycled cardboard and creating unique tiled posters that can be displayed or turned into 3D puzzles.

Joining the STEAM Club means you’ll learn valuable maker skills, work as part of a team, solve problems, and most importantly, have a blast while doing it!

After the holiday break, we’ll introduce more exciting projects, including Handmade Magazines, Learning Games, Cardboard Engineering Challenges, and Dioramas. We’re always open to ideas from our students, so your input is welcome!

No, we do not offer aftercare or daycare services. The STEAM Club is designed as a high-energy after-school program for students in grades 2-5, and children need to be picked up promptly at 4:35 PM. While we focus on engaging and educational activities, this program is not intended to serve as a daycare. We encourage parents to make arrangements for timely pick-up after club activities.

Here are ten reasons why children should participate in the Space Voyage STEAM Club:

1. Hands-On Learning: Students engage in project-based Expeditions that allow them to learn by doing, making concepts in STEAM more tangible and enjoyable.

2. Creative Expression: The club encourages creativity through various projects, such as designing Halloween costumes and building rockets, allowing kids to express themselves artistically.

3.
Teamwork Skills: Participants will work collaboratively on projects, fostering important teamwork skills that are essential for future success in school and beyond.

4. Problem-Solving Opportunities: Kids will face challenges during their projects, promoting critical thinking and problem-solving skills as they find solutions together.

5. Mentorship from Experts: Students will have the chance to work with Dr. Palmere, a knowledgeable mentor, who guides them through the STEAM concepts and projects.

6. Fun and Relaxation: The club provides a fun environment where kids can unwind after school, balancing learning with relaxation and enjoyment.

7. Building Confidence: Completing projects and sharing their creations helps boost students' confidence in their abilities and encourages a positive attitude towards learning.

8. Pioneering Program: Ute Meadows is the first school to host a STEAM Club, giving participants the unique opportunity to be part of an innovative program that sets the stage for future clubs across the country.

9. Expanded Time for Projects: With longer sessions, kids have more time to build, learn, and have fun, ensuring they get the most out of each Expedition.

10. Community Contribution: Students will contribute to meaningful projects, such as creating rockets for their school, fostering a sense of pride and connection to their community.
