Space Voyage is best described as a program in which groups of students are immersed in the career cross-over skills involved in being an astronaut (Space Camp), or a craftsman (Maker lab). The students are invited to think and work "as if" they are astronauts or craftsman, focusing on positive thinking, problem solving, communication, and teamwork. A physical environment is created using wall murals, posters, computer workstations, and hands-on investigations and experiments.
A positive emotional environment is established and enhanced by the Space Voyage Program Directors and Student Instructors, creating the correct physical and emotional milieu for optimum learning and growth. In this setting, the program invites exploration and encourages proficiency, explains standards of achievement and expected norms of behavior, empowers individual and group achievement, and stresses the importance of group cohesion and tolerance for others. Our Staff ratio goal is 1:6. Often the ration is 1:3.
The program is designed for ongoing studies; and, approximately 50% of students return from one summer to the next. The programs are described by returning students as one-part Montessori School (hands-on), one-part Disney World (many wows! clicks! and aha's!), and ne-part Santa's house without the waits ( many gifts and a lot of joy.)
Staff are dedicated and devoted to make camp the most wonderful week of the summer for every child.
